The Greek AORsters Wild Rose after their stunning debut album “Half Past Midnight” came out in 2011 are back with a fresh brand new album encompasses everything we all love about pure AOR. Top-notch vocals, big memorable hooks, melodies galore, with some of the tastiest guitar work you may hear and swathes of gorgeous keyboards!!! Their new album titled “Dangerous” and will be released on February 22, 2013 via AOR Heaven.
The new album introduces a new singer in David A. Saylor, with significant experience in melodic hard rock scene not only with his solo work but also with his participation in the British hard rock band Push in the early 90s. Saylor joins principal songwriter/guitarist Andy Rock and offer us a classy AOR album for all the rock fans with great musicianship, passionate vocals, top-notch guitar work, colorful synths, huge harmonies and an ’80s feeling all over. The rest of the band consists by dummer Vaggelis Junior where his tight drumming joins with Phil Gun’s bass line to compise a rock solid rhythm section. Keyboardist Dirty Haris accents the bands sound without overriding the instrumentation while Tiny Karpo on rhythm guitar enchants with his fantastic riffing.
The album begins with two aggressive tracks “Alone” having killer guitar riffs and stunning keys and the brilliant “Hold On” with a chorus to die for and some really great layers of keyboards, proving that the songs quality and musicianship is definitely a step up from their previous work. The rest of the songs have that mid-tempo sound that we all love in their first record where the guitars and keyboards shine brightly with inspired melodies and passionate lyrics.
The new singer, Saylor has a rawer edge to his voice that fits very well into the soundscape of the band that elevated these tunes to the stratosphere, giving a marvelous feel and punch to the whole pack. But on the other hand Saylor lags a bit on thin notes and as a result his complexion don’t take off the songs as it should be. Beyond that the keys appear constantly enriching in all over the songs and sometimes cover the guitar riffs. The album has some beautiful -unfortunately few- solo moments where the two guitarists interchanged pleasantly with their own style. Worth mentioning the participation in backing vocals by Chris Siloma and Tatiana Economou.
By listening the two album’s of Wild Rose we can understand why they are one of the best bands coming from Greece in melodic hard rock scene and with the release of their new album set the bases for one of the best releases of 2013. The bad news is that they are on the peak of their careers at a time where albums in that style released almost every day. But what we can confirm, however, is that the work of people with passion for music will always be rewarded! We wish the best to the guys from Thessaloniki and we wait to reach as high as they can cause they deserve it…
